Lalit Narayan Mithila University (LNMU) in Darbhanga, Bihar, was established in 1972 as Mithila University, later renamed in 1980. It's a public university known for its role in higher education in the region, offering various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. LNMU is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a B++ grade and is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

• LNMU was founded in 1972 as Mithila University and renamed in 1980 to Lalit Narayan Mithila University, honoring the memory of a prominent figure in Bihar.

• The university is located in Darbhanga, Mithila, a region in North India. Its jurisdiction covers four districts: Begusarai, Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Samastipur.
